Zheng Geping almost gave up acting because of his dual roles in the Singaporean action film ‘Deleted’
Zheng Geping, a 58-year-old Singaporean actor and producer under The Celebrity Agency, almost quit his career in acting because of the film Deleted.
This Singapore-Malaysia co-produced action film is produced by Zheng Geping, who is also one of the actors in the movie. He mentioned that the film includes intense martial arts scenes with the usage of real guns, live ammunition, people punching each other and stunts without the support of wires at all.
For the movie to imitate real-life events and deliver more exciting action scenes, the team needed to invite martial arts masters to help with the shooting. Fortunately, the actors in the film were experienced with fighting scenes and did not have a hard time filming even without the presence of wires to support them. “It is ideal for actors with good skills to fight in person, without adding any special effects,” he said.
Deleted is a new action film that highlights human trafficking. It revolves around an order to wipe out illegal activities done by an organized criminal group – this involves killing people and stealing human body parts such as kidneys.
For Zheng Geping, the biggest challenge is when he switches from being a producer to an actor. As a producer, he needs to be very rational for the sake of the team – the plans for the movie must be comprehensive and well-crafted for it to be a success. However, as an actor, he needs to become emotional. He was having a difficult time transitioning from prioritizing rationality to allowing himself to feel all the emotions of a specific character.
In the future, Zheng Geping is willing to work with another excellent producer to assist him, in case he must really focus on his acting.
He admitted as well that he was about to give up halfway through the preparations for Deleted. Unfortunately, investors exclaimed that one of the reasons why they supported the film was because he was acting. He did not have a choice but to continue.
Zheng Geping hopes that the Singaporean audience will support this local film.
“With the support of the local audience, it will be a great encouragement for us, and we will have the confidence to move forward and continue to do better” he stated.
A sequel for the movie is currently being planned.
Deleted is now showing in Singapore cinemas under Golden Village Pictures.
