With Black Ops 4 Rumored, Activision Confirms Treyarch Is Making Call Of Duty 2018

Today during an earnings call, Activision confirmed that this year’s Call of Duty game is coming from Treyarch, the creator of the massively popular Black Ops sub-brand. Activision did not share any further details on this year’s Call of Duty game, but it is rumoured to be the much-anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Today’s confirmation that Treyarch is making Call of Duty 2018 comes just days after a report said this would be the case, with Black Ops 4 named as the game. According to the report, it will have fewer sci-fi elements following the reception to 2016’s futuristic Infinite Warfare.

Looking forward to the year ahead. . . we can’t wait to share more!

New Call of Duty games traditionally aren’t announced until well into spring, often in April or May in the lead-up to E3, so it could be a while still until we hear more specifics. Treyarch also created the fan-favourite Zombies mode, and we would be very surprised if some kind of Zombies experience did not factor into Treyarch’s new game.

It is no surprise that Treyarch is making Call of Duty 2018. Treyarch’s Black Ops III was released in 2015, so, given the three-year development cycle for Call of Duty games, it was expected that Treyarch would make this year’s game. Call of Duty releases rotate between Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer, and Treyarch.

In other news, Activision Blizzard announced today that Call of Duty: Black Ops III was beaten by Call of Duty: WWII when it comes to first-quarter sales.
