Israel and the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad have agreed to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after three days of cross-border fighting triggered by surprise Israeli airstrikes, according to reports.
Officials from Egypt, which often mediates between Israel and Gaza’s armed groups, were quoted by Reuters and Al Jazeera as saying that a truce would come into effect at either 8pm (6pm BST) or 9pm (7pm BST) on Sunday evening.
