Record hot year may be the new normal by 2025

ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science researchers have defined what ‘new normal’ means. They found it was inevitable the record hot year of 2015 would become a new normal by no later than 2040 under any IPCC emissions scenario. The researchers also looked at seasonal extremes and found that with strong action, record hot seasonal temperatures at regional level ‘can’ be prevented from becoming average in the 21st century.
