Online message board advice on ICDs reflects inaccuracies

Medical advice about implanted cardiac defibrillators obtained over two years from a dedicated online message board was accurate only about half of the time. About a quarter of advice dispensed via the online message board was inappropriate and 6 percent controversial. These findings underscore the need for clinicians to ask patients about sources of information to ensure they receive appropriate advice.
