S’porean says life in SG has convinced him not to have kids; doesn’t want the kid to suffer same living pressures

A Singaporean posted on the social website Reddit recently, admitting that although he has a good life in Singapore, the stress and pressure make it far “from an ideal” one, even for kids.

Life in Singapore has also convinced him that he doesn’t want to have children. Competition from a young age, one of the longest work weeks in the world, one of the most stressed out workforces, long working hours, the push toward productivity and upskilling to remain in the workforce until late in life, were some of the reasons why.

PMD riders spotted on expressway, netizens ask if authorities are sleeping

Two personal mobility device (PMD) users were spotted breaking the law and riding on the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE), sparking concern from the online community on proper enforcement.

Facebook page ROADS.sg uploaded a video of the incident, which happened on Dec 3 at around 3:30 am. The dashboard camera footage showed two PMD riders, both with pillion passengers, on the expressway.

Another victim loses S$2,500 to scammer pretending to be Singapore Police

Yet another member of the public has fallen prey to scammers impersonating government officials, this time to someone pretending to be a Singapore Police Force (SPF) officer. A Facebook page Complaint Singapore member posted information on the scammer on Monday (Dec 5), urging others to be aware of the modus operandi.

“My friend was a victim of this person and took her money worth S$2,500,” said the netizen. “Today, I received a call from him pretending to be a police officer. Even wearing a police uniform with the banner in the back. The scammer also provided a fake ID during the video call. Be careful and mindful all the time,” the concerned individual added.

Rui En accepts all the ‘she’s doing it for publicity’ comments about her charity work

Rui En, 41, a Singaporean actress, had a recent interview with Mothership about her heart for charity work.

In an Instagram post, she expressed how thankful she is to be given an opportunity to talk about her good deeds, and a little about mental health. “What a wonderful way to cap off the year.” the actress said.

Long wait for HDB flats: Jamus Lim says repeated rejections for BTO are ‘debilitating’

One of the issues residents in his ward have spoken about to Workers’ Party MP Jamus Lim is the intersection of family planning and housing access, he wrote in a Dec 5 (Monday) Facebook post.

“These (Anchorvale and Compassvale) residents expressed their concerns about the long wait for HDB flats,” Assoc Prof Lim (Sengkang GRC) wrote. He also said that because resale flats have reached sky-high prices, some young couples are unable to afford flats in this market.
